A new approach to preventing homelessness for young people in Plymouth
The Zone is delighted to announce the launch of SAFE Zone – Supporting At-risk Futures Early, a new project that will focus on preventing homelessness and rough sleeping for young people in Plymouth.
Funded through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Ending Homelessness in Communities Fund, SAFE Zone builds on The Zone’s more than 35 years of experience supporting young people and will provide a dedicated Early Intervention Housing Support (EIHS) service for young people aged 16–25.
The project will provide support at an earlier stage, helping young people address housing difficulties, strengthen relationships, develop independence and avoid situations escalating into homelessness or rough sleeping.
Support will include one-to-one and intensive housing support, housing advice, independent living skills, mediation and family-based work, group activities, outreach and stronger links with partner services.
A dedicated space for young people
A key part of SAFE Zone will be the development of a dedicated day centre, creating a safe, welcoming and psychologically informed environment where young people can access support.
The space will also provide co-location opportunities for partner organisations, making it easier for young people to connect with the services and professionals they need.
SAFE Zone will use a Trusted Professional and Team Around Me approach, bringing together the right professionals, services and trusted people around each young person where appropriate. This will help create more coordinated support while keeping young people at the centre of decisions about their lives.
SAFE Zone will complement The Zone’s existing ZAP service, creating a stronger pathway from early intervention and prevention through to specialist homelessness support.

We’re now recruiting the team who will help bring this new project to life.
We are looking for a Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of SAFE Zone, alongside two Early Intervention Housing Support Workers who will work directly with young people.
These roles offer an exciting opportunity to join The Zone at the beginning of a new project and help shape how the service develops.
SAFE Zone is currently a working name, with the final name to be co-designed and chosen with young people.
