Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Schools

Progeny is whole school approach to supporting emotional health and wellbeing across school communities in Plymouth. The service was set up to develop partnerships and pathways, in order to expand capacity and competence to address the presenting needs of our students.

Now entering it's 7th year Progeny has become a service which successfully addresses and supports the needs of our whole school communities. We know that young people who are stable, secure and happy in their own skin go on to succeed, make positive choices and live fulfilling adulthoods.

Year 6 Update

  • 244 School Based Staff have been successfully trained as Mental Health First Aiders.

  • 456 additional School Based Staff have had elements of Mental Health First Aid disseminated to them, of which 100% reported that this was beneficial to their roles.

  • 1625 School Based Staff have received additional bespoke training opportunities covering a variety of topics including; Healthy Relationships, Risk Taking Behaviours, Social Media, Trauma and Vicarious Trauma, Young Peoples Resilience and Self Esteem and Staff Stress

  • 1406 individual Children and Young People received workshops throughout Mental Health Awareness Weeks (May and October) comprising of sessions addressing Mental Health Awareness and Stress and Resilience

  • The Targeted Support Programme to date has been delivered to a total of 19 Schools which include; Grammar, Mainstream and Special Schools with 396 Young People having had the opportunity to meaningfully engage.

  • 123 Parents and Carers have attended co-delivered Workshops relating to Young Peoples Mental Health and Development.

  • In total there have been a minimum of 8300 different people who have directly benefited from interventions delivered by Progeny.

First Response - 24/ 7 Urgent Mental Health support line

Livewell Southwest have set up a support live which any child or young person under the age of 18 in Plymouth experiencing a mental health crisis can call to seek support or advice from mental health professionals who will then triage as necessary. The professionals will also be able to signpost to other agencies where it is deemed appropriate for further support.

They do not need to be open to the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) but they will need to be registered with a Plymouth GP.

Parents, carers and families or professionals with concerns about a young person’s mental health can also call the number.

The helpline number for those under 18 to call is 01752 435122.

Jeremiah's Journey – A local charity supporting children and young people who have lost or are expecting to loose someone special to them. A range of support is available through Jeremiahs Journey.

Livewell Southwest -  Livewell Southwest is an independent social enterprise and community interest company (CIC) providing integrated health and social care services for people.

Plymouth City Council – Youth Services - Services include; Youth Centres based in various localities across the city, OUT Youth Group; a youth group for young people aged 13 to 25 who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender/Transsexual (LGBT) in Plymouth, Targeted and Intensive Support Teams, Care leavers and Homelessness Support for young people.
