What is a Volunteer Youth Support Worker? A Youth Support Worker is a volunteer who has completed our Youth Support Worker Training and works as a volunteer providing support and information to young people at the Zone for at least half a day a week. There is not one type of person who is a Youth Support Worker. We have people who are Youth Support Workers who want to have experience working with young people, who are returning to work after having children or facing challenges in their lives, who are thinking about changing their jobs , who fell in to it, and many more reasons. The most important thing for a Youth Support Worker to know is it can be a very rewarding job but it can also be very hard and emotionally demanding, especially when the help you can offer a young person is limited. It is not a volunteering position to consider for a person who is emotionally vulnerable and who thinks it will make them feel better to help others as sometimes that is not possible or the young people choose not to accept the help. The training provided by us for Youth Support Workers is accredited by ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network)and funded by Plymouth College of Further Education. Applicants accepted on the training are required to complete a workbook which is assessed and if it meets the required standard an ASDAN Certificate in Community Volunteering Qualification will be awarded. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact us. |
