Agency Information
This page will give you some background and information on The Zone and how it works to provide a safe, confidential and quality service to all the poeple that pass though our doors.
History:
The Zone started in 1990 as an alternative to existing youth service provision in the city offering information, advice guidance and support, counselling, sexual health and accommodation advice service to young people aged 13-25. The idea was to have a one-stop-shop in Plymouth which young people choose to access in a youth friendly environment.
The Zone is a charity and company limited by guarantee and has a staff team currently of 70+ with around 50 volunteers at any one time. We train 80 volunteers over a year, plus we take Counselling volunteers who have or have virtually completed their diploma training.
The Zone’s philosophy and ethos is to support, enable and empower young people to make decisions for themselves about the things that are important to them, and help them to reach their full potential.
Over our 20 year history, we estimate that we have worked with between 75,000-100,000 different young people from Plymouth and the travel to work area. If you have stories which you are willing to share, about how you may have received support in the past from us, we would love to hear from you.
